Jazz Standards - Vote Now!

Awesome thanks for these suggestions Lisa.

I made a jazzy happy birthday tutorial for one of our German students a couple of years ago. He wanted to play it to his wife for her birthday :grinning:

I never added it to the PianoGroove library, I just sent him a private link on YouTube, but here is the short arrangement - I also added “Happy Birthday” in German for him

It was a quick arrangement I put together, and I can certainly make something more in depth with notation and add it to the PianoGroove website for all to enjoy. Cheers!

Hello all!

First post here, hope it’s the right place but I would love to have a tutorial on this song:

Aguas de Março (Regina, Jobim)

Loads of happy and playful vibes into that one

Cheers!

Welcome to our community Agnes

Yes we can most certainly cover this song.

I have one more request to edit and upload from the table at the top of this thread: “You Must Believe In Spring” by Michel Legrand, and then I will compile all of the song requests that have been posted.

I will do it by genre and/or style, and then work out which of our teaching team is best to cover the song requests.

Our Brazilian maestro @Jovino is best suited to cover any tunes of Brazilian origin - particularly Jobim’s work where Jovino has such deep insight into Jobim’s music.

Here’s the last tune request from the original voting table above - Michel Legrand’s beautifully haunting ballad “You Must Believe In Spring” taught by Tuomo.

It’s a tricky tune to play… so be warned!

I’ll now consolidate all requests for us to cover over 2019 and allocate them to our teaching team. I can’t wait to pick the ones I do :grinning:

I think the fairest way is voting tables, so that the most in demand tunes are delivered first.

I haven’t counted the exact number of requests here, but I imagine we will need 2 or 3 voting tables from skimming up the thread. The voting tables can only accommodate a maximum of 20 options.

I’ll figure out the best way to structure it shortly.

Hi there, I was wondering if Blue Bossa will be included in the jazz standards resource section. Many thanks

Hey Manuel,

Yes we can do this.

I will have to study the arrangement again as I created that tutorial a while ago.

Leave it with me and I will create something for you :+1:

Hi @Hayden,

I was wondering if there are any plans for making an arrangement lesson for Stars Fell on Alabama :star_struck::star::star:

Thanks.

Great song Ariel! Here is Daniela Andrade and Hanbyul Kang performing an incredibly romantic version of Stars Fell on Alabama.

Yes we can certainly cover the “Stars Fell On Alabama” Ariel.

Okay I’ve compiled every request in this thread, we have 52 tune requests to complete in 2019.

I’d say I’m familiar with around 1/2 of them so I have some listening to do myself!

As previously mentioned, the voting tables are limited to 20 options maximum, and so we need multiple voting tables. I’ll categorise and publish them shortly.

The tutorials will be created starting with the highest voted. I think that’s the fairest way. Each of us will be able to place multiple votes (maybe 5 votes each per table), and we also change our vote once the tune has been covered which makes it a dynamic voting system :grinning:

Here’s the tune list we’re working with:

  • Don’t let me be lonely tonight
  • Unforgettable
  • What A Difference A Day Makes
  • I’ve Got You Under My Skin

“Someday my prince will come”

would be a nice to look at it, it’s an interesting set of chord choices, and i’m having some trouble improvising the harmony on that one.

Also another great one would be “little B’s Poem” by bobby hutcherson, just a beautiful tune.
