Kester, here’s another great from the contemporary London scene. Maybe a bit more traditional, but very nice. All the artists are involved in other groups. This one is written with Kenny Dorham in mind; hence, “Dear KD.”

Lovely tune Scott! I had heard of the banger factory but thought it was more an event than a band, I think they play all the time in brixton. Lots of great jazz in the city

A really lovely rendition. A joy to watch as well as listen to.

@kester / @scott1 – If you guys are into the London jazz scene, I’m sure you guys are already familiar with this, but the compilation We Out Here from 2018 was one of my favorite discoveries from last year. I would highly recommend it for anyone who wants a sampler of those sounds.

Victor Young’s “Beautiful Love” is from 1931. And here he is nearly ninety years on. This is Javier Santiago’s version.

I suppose I’m late to the game, but I just came across Gerry Gibbs Thrasher Dream Trio. As far as I can tell, there are three albums with the core of Gerry Gibbs (d), Kenny Barron, and Ron Carter. The first (2013) is self-titled and is a mix of standards and originals. The second, We’re Back (2014), adds sax, vibraphone, and Larry Goldings on organ with a set of soul and pop classics. The third, Live in Studio (2015)—-a mix of originals and standards-—adds Roy Hargrove (t) and Cassandra Wilson on vocals. They’re all great. I’ve linked a couple of examples. “My Cherie Amour” from We’re Back is incredible, with Kenny Barron and Larry Goldings on the same tune. “What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life” is from Live in Studio with the great Roy Hargrove. Enjoy! :musical_keyboard::musical_keyboard::musical_keyboard:

Been fiddling around with “A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square” and came across this absolutely brilliant version by Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen and Michel Petrucciani. Hard to imagine a better bassist. Enjoy! :musical_keyboard:

Here’s another fine version by Stan Getz. It’s a hoot to see Steve Swallow so young and still on the upright bass. (He was one of the first to switch exclusively to electric.)

Ellis Larkins was "known for his understated elegance as an improviser and his sensitivity as an accompanist."He "established his reputation as an accompanist with two celebrated duo albums he recorded with Ella Fitzgerald for Decca Records, Ella Sings Gershwin, in 1950, and Songs in a Mellow Mood, in 1954.

He recorded a few albums with a trio. A Smooth One is one of the best. His touch is so relaxed. Here are a few examples. Enjoy :musical_keyboard:

I love the vibe of his solo on “A Smooth One”.

His delicate and playful touch reminds me a little of Red Garland; both in his soloing style and comping.

You might like “The Summary” from Hank Jones. The more I listen to him, the more I love his touch. It’s on Upon Reflection: The Music Of Thad Jones (1993 Decca Records France). Thad Jones was a trumpet player/composer and Jones’s younger brother. The album features his other younger brother Elvin Jones (d) and George Mraz (b). Enjoy :musical_keyboard:
