What Record Are You Listening To Today?

And here’s something sublime for us when the world seems to be imploding. Harold Danko wasn’t a name I was familiar with. After looking him up, I found that I knew him quite well–he played keys for Chet Baker’s classic live 1987 Tokyo concert. Here’s a solo from 2016, followed by a brilliant version of “Almost Blue.” Enjoy :musical_keyboard: And wash your hands. :sunglasses:

John,

Thanks for sharing. The Charlap tune is great, and anything from Hancock’s River is indeed sublime. I especially like Luciana Souza’s “Amelia.” She really sounds like Joni, and she’s also an incredible artist to explore. Her The Book of Chet (2012) is an exercise in minimalist voicings that’s well worth a visit.

I hadn’t heard “The Book of Chet” so it and your listing of Ellis Larkins (no idea he had done a solo album) get picked in Google Play.

In fact your entire playlist in this post is a great selection and all the copy/pasting has ruined my practice routine for the week. Thanks for that!

Something soothing in these nerve-wracking days. :musical_keyboard:

Today I was fiddling around with “Autumn Leaves.” Here’s probably a familiar version from Cannonball Adderley’s session with Miles Davis, Something Else (Blue Note 1958), but one well worth another listen whenever. Piano focus on Hank Jones at 6:40 and at the end 8:32.

Thanks Scott. Nice! Love the riffs

Tonight, I’ve been listening to a new (to me) album by Enrico Pieranunzi, Stories (CAM Jazz 2014). I’ve been following him for some time now. Here is a video from this record label that is so very much worth a listen. I am especially taken by “Flowering Stones,” a haunting cut at about 10:08 minutes (Scott Colley (b), Antonio Sanchez (d). Enjoy. :musical_keyboard:

Tord Gustavsen is a find for these days of stress with his album The Well (ECM Records 2012). There are no pyrotechnics here, just, as one critic noted, “melodic dimensions [that] become expansive: tones, colors, textures, and dynamics [that] shift incrementally.” I find his style appealing. Here are a few tunes from that album. Enjoy :musical_keyboard:

Thanks for the tip Scott! We’ll have a listen tonight. I always love the ecm sound. We’re starting with the 2018 one and so far it’s super beautiful.

Was listening to this piano arrangement today  - Love the voice too.
(am sure there are a lot more better versions maybe)

Wish to also ask if we have What a Wonderful World in any of the Piano Groove lessons ? Thanks very much in advance!
