Two Handed split voicing

Hi Everyone, my name is Kevin and I am 76 years of age. I want to find an exercise on two handed split voicing for a ii V 1 but am not sure where to find it within the course. Thanks everyone, Kevin.

Hi again everyone. I have worked out a ii V 1 using the Root, 3rd and 7th. The Root plus the 5th which I have omitted in my left hand to keep it more visual but can be easily added with the 3rd and the 7th played in the right hand in all 12 keys in the circle of 5ths. These I have in PDF form so if anyone was interested I will post them on this thread. Kevin

Hi Kevin

We have a few lessons on the basic 251 spread voicings, here they are:

251 Progression Theory:

This lesson explains the theory behind the 251 progression and we construct the 251 progression in the key of C Major, D Major, and Bb Major.

251 Progression Exercise:
This lesson covers a 251 exercise where we take the 3-note voicings around all 12 keys using the whole step 251 pattern:

You can find both of these lessons in the Jazz Piano Foundations Course.

That’s great Kevin. Congrats on your progress!

3-note 251 progressions are the foundation of learning jazz harmony and so time spent learning this progression in all 12 keys is time well-spent.

Everything that we add in the upcoming courses (chord extensions, alterations, rootless voicings etc…) builds upon the foundational 3-note voicings.

That’s kind of you to share your PDF file.

Here are 2 PDF files which cover the 3 note voicings in Type A and Type B:

You might also like to check out the course on Whole Step 251 Progressions where we further develop the basic 3-note 251 progressions:

I hope that helps!

Thank you Hayden, takes a little while longer at my age. Navigating the site it would seem to be one of my problems but the links you gave me are perfect. If I read articles in the right order I would have bumped into the question I first asked! I thank you very much for your help in pointing me in the correct direction. Right, now the practice, Kevin.

My pleasure @kevinrhart .

On a related note, we recently added a search box into the website navigation.

Please click the screenshots here to enlarge them:

The search feature was moved to the Pro Dashboard page when we did a design update earlier this year.

A few students requested that it’s visible on every page - so we just made the update at the weekend.

You will see in the screenshots that I searched for “251 Drill” and it returns all of the relevant lessons on the search results page.

You should find that helpful to find the lessons on the website.

If I can help further just let me know.
