Piano keyboard for travelling

After reading this thread and others at pianoworld, I picked up a Studiologic SL73 as a travel piano about 6 months ago, and it’s been great.

It has a Fatar keybed with TP100LR action–weighted but graded, so similar in that respect to a true hammer action. Best things about this keyboard are:

  1. weight/size/durability–with pelican case it comes in at 47 pounds (so no overweight baggage fee), and has survived about a dozen airplane flights.
  2. price–costs about 20% of a top end stage piano, so not quite as much of a disaster if something does get damaged during transport.

Cons are that it’s a midi keyboard so one needs to travel with a VST, and, supposedly it’s difficult to get Fatar parts if something goes wrong.

The action is relatively heavy which takes a little getting used to but is great for practicing, and I’m very happy with it.

Thanks Greg for your advice! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I’ve ordered a loog piano. Small, light, cheap and, apparently, pretty good sound:

It will arrive in the spring.
