The only downside to practicing a new piece is that I wake up in the middle of the night with the tune running through my head working out chord substitutions and extensions.
I wonder if that is why Michael Jackson couldn’t sleep?

Nothing to worry about, George. This is your brain on piano!
haha… the power of music George - (with your brains surely busy collaborating with it even while asleep/awake )
I can somehow relate with - waking in the middle of the night with melodies in my head or me being haunted at dawn time - by a jazz piece I still haven’t finished learning lol …
I had this last night. I call it “the work dream.” Being awake is annoying, but I’d rather it be due to music instead of actual work. If I hadn’t had to work today, I would have gotten up and played again for a while. The beautiful part is that going back to the piano wears me out all over again and I fall back to sleep.
That happens to me as well. Not sure if it’s the excitement of learning something new or my mind still trying to process what I learned lol.
