Looking for a piano teacher familiar with PianoGroove

Hi everyone,

I’ve been really enjoying the PianoGroove methodology: it’s structured, clear, and exactly the kind of progression I was missing before. That said, since it’s a course, it does rely heavily on self-discipline. I know I would benefit from more accountability and regular check-ins with a teacher.

I’ve worked with several teachers in the past, but most lacked a proper methodology, so I often didn’t see a clear path forward. That’s why I think combining PianoGroove’s curriculum with weekly 1-to-1 lessons would be the perfect setup.

Has anyone here found teachers, familiar with the PianoGroove approach, who offer private lessons? I’d love to hear your experiences or recommendations.

Thanks!
Nicolas

Hi Nicolas,

I’m new at PianoGroove, but I’ve been a member of another Jazz Piano membership for many years. What I’ve found is that an outside teacher that is very versed in jazz piano, such as the one I know that has regular gigs for many years, doesn’t have to be familiar with PianoGroove. I’ve gone to a private teacher when I am feeling stuck from time to time and then share with them what I’m learning and they can help me with that. For example, I was learning a jazz waltz and I couldn’t quite get the timing right. So that is what I had the private teacher help me with. In other words, with permission from an outside teacher, you can dictate what you want them to help you with. Anyhow, this is how I’ve done it, but you may be interested in seeing someone on a regular basis and they can still help you with whatever you want from PianoGroove if they really deeply know jazz piano and the theory behind it.

Hi
Regarding a recommended teacher here on PG, Tuomo’s a good first point of contact as I’ve only heard positive feedback from students.
