Kristeta's Practice Log

Thanks for the kind words Pierre! Hope you are well! This piece never grows old in my ears lol - not sure why, but these jazz standards always give me a smile!

All thanks too - for the opportunity to play such a wonderful arrangement from Hayden. (I hope I get to play it with justice in the future when I know more about interpreting jazz piano pieces)
I have finished learning the sight reading part for page 2 as well but I need to polish some more and record for the whole track hehe…

I’m aiming to re view some Xmas pieces I learned last year and hope I can improve them this time

Take care

December 2021 Progress | Anniversary month

on the 30th December marks my 2nd year on PianoGroove  and wow, from that moment in time, it has changed my life in so so so many ways…

Am still continuing with the foundations, and everything else (little by little) that needs to be understood about the rudiments/basics of jazz piano playing, jazz singing, vocal accompaniment… and each time I watch a lesson, or a 5-minute masterclass, or a live seminar - it never fails that I am wanting for more, always haunting me haha, in my waking life that I need to check on PianoGroove to better myself, see other members’ progress or simply do my best to see the top-notch lessons, courses that these amazing teachers provide us…

A couple of months back,

I did have the courage  … to go back to a few of the pieces that I learned to sight-read during the first year… (When I fall in love and a few Christmas pieces) and it was a sure reminder for me to start playing them again and listening to other versions so I can gain ideas and that needed musical skill to improvise to it … (on-going progress!)

Below were the songs that I tried to sight-read and play…since I started

  1. My Funny Valentine (2020)

  2. When I Fall in Love (2020)

  3. Embraceable You (2020)

  4. Girl from Ipanema ( 2020)

  5. Nearness of You (2020)

  6. The Christmas Song (2020)

  7. I’ll Be Home for Christmas (2020)

  8. Darn that Dream (2020)

  9. I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas (2020)

  10. Christmas Time is Here (2020)

  11. Waltz for Debby (2021)

  12. Georgia on my Mind (2021)

  13. Over the Rainbow (2021)

  14. There will never be another you (still in the works!)

my first goal was to play and read as many pieces as I could (year 1) and during (year 2) - I tried to watch more lessons, some even, repeatedly  and I made sure to have my nano keyboard right in front of my laptop so I can play along during lessons etc… and - it was always so much fun re-learning jazz concepts…

the Jazz music theory is slowly starting to stick in my head and am really happy that some of the jazz chords I am playing or sight-reading, I can already understand or say to myself how it was built hehehe… or know its purpose…

There is really so much to say with this incredible experience with PianoGroove and I am just ever so so THANKFUL to Hayden and other superb teachers for this delightful, fantabulous 2 years where I have felt such great improvement in my jazz piano journey. Onward to 2022 and am so excited to continue and get better than this year hehe!!

Here’s wishing you all a Happy Christmas and a magnificent New Year!

My initial attempt to Over the Rainbow :heavy_heart_exclamation:
Hoping to improve it as it gets added to my list heheh… Take care everyone!

Lovely performance @Kristeta and congrats on keeping such a detailed practice log.

With each new tune that we learn it becomes easier and easier to learn the next ones. Think of it as a ‘snowball effect’. With each new tune we become more comfortable with common chord progressions and harmonic situations that are found in the jazz standard repertoire.

You should soon find it quicker and easier to learn and memorise new tunes which is a fun place to be.

Congrats again on your progress and wishing you a very Happy New Year.

How beautiful! Congrats Kristeta, your playing and expression are just lovely.
You’ve been working hard and it shows. Congrats! Your growth is exponential, so things will continue to get easier, whilst you are ready to take on more and more challenges.
The momentum is with you now, and I look forward to hearing more of your music in 2022.
PS - thanks for inspiring me!

My Favorite Things (Dec 29, 2023)
My Favorite Things

I must say, it just keeps getting so much better each year. :star_struck: I now understand I have learning habits that don’t work when I do them while learning jazz piano, or practicing/studying new skills and concepts… cos no matter what I do or did, I don’t or won’t see myself progressing.

I have added here a few of the videos I did an attempt on in the past year  Please forgive the errors hehe … I want to focus on writing some notes this year, …and prepared myself a lovely music notebook that I can use to track my progress plus help me remember things relating to Jazz Music theory etc.

To Hayden and our other instructors. :star_struck: Thank you!!! for the SPECTACULAR experience you provide for us here in Pianogroove !!!

Thank you to our wonderful community! It’s always exciting to witness each other’s jazz piano journey!
