Intro and Solo The Christmas Song

Hey everyone,

I’m working on “The Christmas Song” and i am looking for a suitable intro.

I tried 1-4-3-6-2-5-1 (normal & dominant). But that doesn’t fit very well. Does anyone have an idea? And a suggestion in which PG videos I might get help for a helpful solo system?

Warm thanks Christian

Hey @christianschilk

Here are some intro ideas that should help you with developing introductions:

Here is a course on Intros, Ending, & Turnarounds that I created some time ago:

Lessons 2.4 and 2.8 give some insights into using the melodic and harmonic contents of a tune to derive material for introductions.

Also here is the lesson that I reference on New Orleans Style 1625s:

Feel free to experiment and blend these techniques. Remember that we can play 1-6-2-5 and then move to the 3 minor (E-7 in this case) which can start a 3625 and we can cycle around this as many times as desired.

I also like to finish my intros with upper structure triad runs and let that create a ‘floor of tension and colour’ which resolves into the first chord of the tune.

I hope that helps and have fun playing around with these progressions and techniques.
