Hi All,
I recently joined PianoGroove and I cannot be more grateful for @Hayden to create this community. As we are in the middle of the holiday season I was interested in playing some Xmas songs. And so I wanted to share my initial learning from PianoGroove with my first version of The Christmas Song fully inspired by Hayden’s lesson. Wishing everyone all the best.
Happy Holidays!

Hi J.C.
Thanks for sharing your arrangement and welcome to the community area!
I really like your arrangement and playing style. Your melodic decoration and arpeggio fills work beautifully on this tune - a joy to listen to!
It’s nice how you add rubato and drift in and out of time in certain places.
I also liked your tagged ending and the jingle bells reference to finish
“The Christmas Song” is probably my favorite holiday tune to play.
The arrangement/version that I teach is heavily reharmonised by the way.
Here are the more standard chord changes for reference.
Starting the A sections with - Cmaj / D-7 / E-7 / F - creates a very different harmonic texture.
I find it’s also a little easier to improvise melodies over these standard chord changes, compared to the reharmonised changes.
Wishing you a very Merry Christmas @JC_Alegre and thanks again for sharing your performance. I’m sure it will provide inspiration for other students.
Talk soon!
Thank you so much @Hayden . Will definitely try the standard chord changes for this beautiful Xmas song.
Looking forward to learning more from you and the members of this great community in 2026.
Merry Xmas!
J.C.
