Hi Hayden
Thought I’d request a lesson on a lovely ballad that I came across recently played by Ellis Marsalis.
A nightingale sang in Berkeley square.

Hey @paul1523727
Please excuse my late reply and yes we can certainly cover this tune.
Ellis Marsalis’ arrangement above is interesting.
His introduction is very heavily harmonised (from 0:02 to 0:07) where he uses a lot of passing chords. I’m not familiar with the tune and so I would start by listening to lots of recordings (instrumental and vocal) to try to understand what he is doing for his introduction.
He starts the A section of the song at 0:39s and he plays pretty much the standard changes which you can see here:
It would be a nice exercise to play along with his recording and try to emulate his melodic phrasing and chord voicings.
His 2nd A section starts at 1m13s and again he follows the standard changes.
I have added this tune to our upcoming lesson schedule and I will incorporate it into a seminar or standalone lesson for you.
I’m actually working on some new medium/up-tempo lessons and courses at the moment - which I’ve been focusing on this year in my own playing.
I usually teach topics that I’ve been working on myself
and I’m looking forward to adding more of this style of playing into our lesson library.
The new lesson format that I’m working on will contain backing tracks and play-a-long sections.
More to follow on this in the next week or so.
