Not exactly a theory question, but for those of us working through practicing spread voicings (beginner level of root in the left, melody on top, and finding 3 and 7 in between), it seems the advice is that the best way to get proficient at it is just to work through tons of songs slowly and steadily.
Aside from the songs covered in the Intro to Lead Sheets and Jazz Fundamentals courses, do you have recommendations of songs that are particularly ideal for gaining proficiency with this (maybe songs that don’t throw too many curve balls, etc)?
This is a slow process but I feel is an important key so some particularly good songs would be helpful.
Hi Seth, I found the songs in the beginner jazz arrangements were good (except for when sunny gets blue which I found very hard!!) I do have a real book but it’s quite intimidating. The arrangements here are much simpler to follow.
It is just a case of slowly moving through stuff I think. I’m finding switching between chords slow but definitely improving. I’ve been on the course for just over a year so by no means an expert.
