I’ve been here for 5 months and this is my first post. I started with Lead Sheet Fundamentals and currently just starting working on Over The Rainbow in Eb. I found this learning path more difficult than I thought it would be but I’m really enjoying the challenge. I’ve never seen or applied the 3rd’s and 7th’s better than I am now. I’ve also been working on Pure Imagination from Beginners Jazz Arrangement course for the last 6 weeks and thought I’d share it. Still needs a lot of work but hope to improve as I go through the learning paths ahead. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for sharing @Ivan.C and lovely performance
That’s great to hear that you are making progress with visualising the 3rds and 7ths. The more tunes we learn the easier this becomes and so you are definitely on the right path.
I’m hosting a workshop today on common chord progressions such as 1625, 2516, and 36251. These progressions can be used to create introductions, endings, and also bridge the gap between 2 songs.
Here’s the workshop link and you can catch the replay on the same page if you can’t make the live session:
I will cover some examples of using these progressions to connect your 2 songs together: Pure Imagination and Over The Rainbow.
Yes it’s important to understand that we are continually evolving and developing our arrangements as we learn new theory and broaden our knowledge of jazz harmony.
You have laid strong foundations here and you’re playing the tune confidently which is great. Congratulations on your progress!
I have a more advanced tutorial on that song here:
and also a seminar here:
It might be nice to ‘cherry pick’ some of the more advanced techniques I use and gradually layer them into your arrangement.
Thanks Hayden…I will have a look at the advanced tutorial and try to attend the workshop.
