2 Live Seminars in November
Hi everyone! ![]()
I’ve scheduled 2 new live seminars for November where we’ll explore ballad stride piano and beginner improvisation using two beautiful jazz standards.
Ballad Stride Piano For Beginners
Wednesday 11th November at 12pm ET
https://www.pianogroove.com/live-seminars/ballad-stride-piano-for-beginners/
In this seminar, we’ll explore the fundamentals of ballad stride piano using the beautiful jazz standard “Smile” - originally composed by Charlie Chaplin.
We’ll start with simple left-hand patterns, alternating between bass notes and rootless chord voicings, and gradually develop this technique into a complete solo jazz piano arrangement.
This is a great style to develop your left-hand independence and to add more movement and expression to your jazz ballad playing.

Corcovado – Beginner Improv Workshop
Wednesday 25th November at 12pm ET

In our second seminar, we’ll explore beginner jazz improvisation using Antônio Carlos Jobim’s beautiful Bossa Nova standard “Corcovado” (Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars) .
We’ll focus on identifying important chord tones, creating simple melodic phrases, and navigating common chord progressions such as 251s.
We’ll also explore how to incorporate a relaxed rhythmic feel of Bossa Nova into our improvisation and arrangement.

Both seminars will have live chat so you can tune in live and ask questions in real-time.
Questions can be submitted in advance on the pages above and the recordings will be available afterwards in the Seminar Archives for anyone who can’t attend live.
Hope to see you there!
