FP-30X noisy keys

Hi all,

A little over a month ago I bought a Roland FP-30X digital piano. I was surprised that a few of the keys have started to give off a dry sound when reaching the rest position after being pressed.

I Groked and found out it is a common problem reported by users…it’s a pity I didn’t come across this “common” problem during my initial research. Grok suggested several pages in YouTube with suggestions ranging from pressing the key down about 20 times to attempt to distribute the original lubrication in the key (didn’t work for me), to opening the keyboard and adding the necessary lubricant to the affected keys (haven’t attempted that yet).

So, I was wondering if any of you had to go through this and if you have any suggestions from your experience.

(Perhaps I should just contact a local Roland representative…but I am trying suggestions from this forum first.)

Thank you all so much,
Nivaldo

Hi @nivaldofernandes

I have experienced this before and usually the clicking sound would go away after some time.

You mention that it’s happening with a few of the keys which is quite alarming, particularly for a piano that is only 1 month old.

I would advise against opening the keyboard as that could void the warranty.

I think the best thing to do is contact your local Roland representative.

Try hammering the key(s) many more times, maybe 100 times or so at different pressure and velocity.

As a short term interim solution you could also wear headphones so that you don’t hear the click whilst playing.

One of the annoying things is that for Roland to fix it, I believe they would need to recall the piano or at least you’d need to take it to a repair center.

To summarise I’d suggest the following:

  • Contact Ronald immediately
  • For the next few days press the affected key(s) many more times than 20
  • Hopefully the issue will resolve itself, but if not do not open the keyboard
  • Use headphones if needed whilst waiting for Roland to reply and repair it for you

I hope that helps!

Did you ever get the issue resolved?

I actually spent some time “exercising” the keys per Hayden’s recommendation and some of the dry sound did go away…but not completely. I left a message with the local retailer/fixer but it has been unseasonably cold where I live and everybody has slowed down…did not hear back from them yet. I have been using my good headphones in the meantime and it has put the issue out of my mind. But your ping reminds me I need to pursue this further…I will update this thread when I have news. Thanks!
