Fly me to the moon - Ballad Performances

Hi all,

I am looking for ballad arrangements/performances of fly me to the moon. There is an obsession to play this tune in swing so it is difficult for me to come across.

I was hoping I could find a beegie adair cover but she also plays this in swing.

I like listening to several versions of a tune before taking ideas from each to form my own way of playing it.

Hey @solomon23.st

I know of this arrangement by a YouTube musician named “Pianista Italiano”:

He plays most of his arrangement in a swing style, but he starts with a very free and rubato introduction.

Also around 2m10s he plays quite freely again before dropping back into swing rhythm.

Fly Me To The Moon is one of those tunes that always played medium/up-tempo, and so I think it’s quite difficult to find a straight/ballad version.

I hope the recording above is of interest to you!

Thanks, I’ll give it a listen.

I did manage to come across this cover which is the only pure ballad arrangement I could find

Here is the YouTube link.

This artist also covers many other jazz standards in ballad styles.

Would love you to make a ballad arr. lesson for this tune Hayden or even an extended slow intro as pre-cursor to playing it in swing style.

Hey @niall

I hope you’re well.

Check out the lessons below which cover this tune…

@solomon23.st - I realised that I have arranged this tune as a ballad but I didn’t share the link with you originally. It’s hard to keep track of all of the songs I have covered on PianoGroove!

I shared the link with @niall above, here it is again:

I hope it’s useful!
