A find and something from Tuomo's "Solo Jazz Piano Arrangements" series

I was looking for Flora Purim’s version of Jobim’s “Dindi,” and I discovered that she has a new album, If You Will. It is coming out on April 29–her first album in 15 years. Fifty years ago, she won nearly every vocal jazz award there was and was a founding member of Chick Corea’s super group, Return to Forever. I got to see her in a small venue in Norman, Oklahoma in, I believe, 1973. She’s just turned 80.

Following are her version of “Dindi” (1973) and “500 Miles High” from her new album. Her voice is as sweet as ever.

There is a transcription of “500 Miles High” here on PianoGroove in Tuomo’s “Solo Jazz Piano Arrangements” series of lessons. Also, I believe that Jovino worked with her and her husband, famed percussionist Airto Moreira, in a year-long residency at Ronnie Scott’s legendary London jazz venue some years ago. Enjoy! :musical_keyboard:
