Thanks for sharing Marc. A fantastic solo piano performance of āIn A Sentimental Moodā at the end of the concert.
Thanks Hayden, found Laura on Spotify as suggested. Nice version, probably late 1940ās/50ās shortly after the film was released. Didnāt realise that you are now based in the USA, thought that you were still near me in Nottingham. Where are you based?
Awesome glad you found it Brian!
Yes Iām looking to expand PianoGroove and get more talented jazz piano players teaching through the website. Iāll hopefully have more to announce on this soon.
I will always continue making lessons as I love doing it - particularly the ballads - but i think it would be nice to offer multiple teaching styles. It would be great to offer more tuition on up-tempo tunes and also blues and bossa nova.
Recently Iāve been in Seattle, Washington. Iāve been networking, meeting musicians and getting involved in the jam scene. The jazz scene in general is much bigger over here than in the UK.
Iām not living here permanently and when back in the UK Iām always either in Manchester (where Iām from originally) or Nottingham.
The lesson on āLauraā is finishedā¦ it will be on the website shortly so look out for the email.
Hi Hayden,
Ah youāre a Manc ! - I knew it from the accent, nice one - me too.
This Bill Evans recording of Gary McFarlaneās waltz (Garyās Waltz) is one that I never tire of
listening to.
Also, love your Michel Pettruciani recording of Ellingtonās āIn a Sentimental Moodā amazing stuff.
I had the pleasure of seeing Michel at The Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester a few years
before he passed. It was my best ever concert and there were a lot of tears that night. When a guy carried hin onto the stage and then sat him at the piano and then he played - unbelievable night.
All the best
Paul Jarvis
Great stuff Paulā¦ nice to know thereās a fellow Mancunian on here
Beautiful recordā¦ thanks for sharing. Thereās some really nice lines in his improvisationā¦ Iāll be listening and transcribing from this. Bill is one of my main inspirations!
Yes itās a wonderful performance. And wow that sounds like an amazing evening watching Pettrucianiā¦ despite all of his adversities in life he was a truly brilliant musician and performer!
Hereās a duo performance of āDarn That Dreamā by Jimmy Van Heusen.
Undercurrent is a 1962 album by jazz pianist Bill Evans and jazz guitarist Jim Hall. They would collaborate again in 1966 for the follow-up album Intermodulation.
Iāve been listening to this for a while too.Love the version of Goodbye Mr Evans.
