Lesson Transcriptions

Hi! I love this site. Anyway I’d like to have all the trascriptions in the lessons.
For example, yesterday I watched the lessons in the “how-to-play-jazz-band-jam-musicians section” (https://www.pianogroove.com/jazz-piano-lessons/how-to-play-jazz-band-jam-musicians/).
Why are there no transcriptions? :thinking::persevere: I think it should be more practical and useful to read a sheet after watching the lesson instead of rewatching again and again.
Howewer I realized that in several songs tutorials there are no transcriptions too. If you can, please add them as soon as possible.

Can you check it, please? I commented several times in other lessons, by I think that I didn’t received any reply. And this i weird because Hayden answer always in other section of this site (forum for example).

The transciber gets the most from doing the work. Its a process that gives the transcriber a greater appreciation because so much work is involved. It is painstaking, slow and tedious though. Cheers

Yes, I thought so! Anyway, for the lessons on comping with open rootless/qurtal voicings, I think it is good for the course to have a ready-to-use, at least partial, transcription.
I know that I can transcribe it on my own and that is a good practice for the musician, but I don’t think this is the case. Further, the site is very good and can be better if every lesson will have a good trascription or at least something to read and study.
This is my opinion.

You can find the exact notation in the lessons, just not full transcription.

Here’s the exact voicings I play…

Quartal 251 in Eb Major:

Quartal 251 in Ab Major

251 in C Minor

251 in G Minor:

I understand that a full transcription can save time when learning new material, but transcriptions should always be an additional aid - and we must not become overly reliant on them.

In the lesson, I talk about the numeric formulas for the quartal stacks

  • stack of 4ths from root
  • stack of 4ths from 4th
  • stack of 4ths from 5th

This is the information that we must memorise and apply to all 12 keys.

Try To Transcribe/Notate The Voicings!

As @adam_powell says, transcribing is very slow and tedious work, and the person actually transcribing gets most of the benefit. This is why in some ways, I feel that I am doing my students a disservice by transcribing everything I play.

It makes it very easy for students to overlook the numeric formulas… which is the most important information!

Thanks Hayden for answering! Obviously in this case no need to have complete transcription, but in my opinion the notation you published now complete the lesson.
Above all, it is useful for refreshing the memory in the future and returning to the topic without watching the lesson again.

I, too want to say that I prefer to work slowly, by transcribing (by ear mostly) what I am interested in. If every single thing was transcribed, knowing myself, I would simply try to learn the transcript, almost passively, thus reducing the wealth of learning a tune or portions there off. But that’s me, of course. Best, Smole
