Jazz Piano Foundations Classroom

Hi PianoGroovers

I am starting a weekly ‘classroom’ program to help students work through the beginner and intermediate courses on the website.

This is a structured program with weekly assignments and group meetings via Zoom. Participants will have access to a private forum group where they can ask me questions and also share their performances for guidance and feedback.

The program will run for approx 6 weeks to help students establish an effective practice routine and to become more confident with jazz harmony and solo piano performance.

The first class is due to start this week and the classes will take place at a convenient time for students on all time zones.

Any questions let me know and looking forward to the class! :cowboy_hat_face:

Can we take both Tuomos voicings course and this one simultaneously?

Yes absolutely Jose. I can coordinate with Tuomo to ensure nothing clashes.

I mention weekly assignments above but perhaps monthly assignments would be a better interval, or somewhere in between weekly/monthly depending on the level of the students and the complexity of the assignments. That’s something for us to experiment with. Cheers!

Congratulations on the new look, @Hayden. That has been a lot of work!

As I was looking through the sections I noticed the jazz piano solo classroom. Can you give a little more info about it? I understand it started around April. Is it part-way through a course now? When is the next one likely to start, and what level of skill is the course aimed at?

Thanks @George_Miller - yes it has been a tricky project but it’s almost there!

I’m still tweaking the Classroom section and new features. Currently the system is sending me unnecessary notifications/emails upon joining a Group or “Classroom”.

There are a few other little details like icons, descriptions, and a pinned topic which explains the skill level for each program and how the classroom section works and runs as a whole.

Anyhow, to answer your question:

Currently @Tuomo is leading/hosting all 4 of the classrooms (Foundations, Improvisation, Solo Piano, & Voicings) and these will be repeating on a 4-8 week basis.

The plan is for the improvisation classroom to run continually but focusing on a new tune each time. It could be cool to create a poll on the tunes that are most in demand.

We will likely switch the other classroom topics every few months or so, so that there are new themes on offer.

It’s handy that you have asked these questions so that we can incorporate them into the “Pinned Topic” in the Classroom category. Perhaps we can add an FAQ section addressing these points and others.

In summary, we are still working out the finer details on how this section works. I will ensure that the pinned topic answers everything and clearly explains how to register and participate in each classroom. I do agree that some rough scheduling would be handy so that students can see when the programs are starting and ending. I will chat with Tuomo about this.
